Great Western Feedout Entry Due Date Set The Great Western Feedout is a program similar to the OK Steer Feedout but the Great Western program permits producers to start the feeding period following winter grazing. Feedout programs allow producers to collect carcass data and feedlot performance information which they can utilize as selection, culling and economic management tools on their ranch. Producers who pasture their weaned calves on winter pasture, wheat pasture for example, and still desire to capture carcass and feedlot performance data on their calf crop are encouraged to participate in the Great Western Feedout. Age and Source verification is scheduled for the steers to attain the carcass premium at marketing time. A minimum of 5 steers per ranch is required, the steers remain the property of the consignor, the feed expenses are financed until marketing, steers are marketed individually as they reach market condition and a fee of $25 per pen is due with the entry. The 2012 Great Western Feedout steer delivery will take place on Wednesday, February 29. The due date for the entry form is February 14. The steers are fed at Cattleman’s Choice Feedyard Inc, near Gage, OK. The details and rules can be obtained from any OSU County Extension Office or by visiting the website www.beefextension.com and clicking the OK Steer Feedout link in the left column.
